Slide Bar on Pro Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Will Not Close when Using a Sidewinder Pin Box
Question:
Installed this hitch 30093 in my F150, and a new sidewinder on the trailer, and the slidebar wont totally close around the king pin. At first it looked like it was hitting the front bolt in the universal wedge adapter, so I flipped around so that the front bolt fit up into the recessed area of the adapter. The slide bar keeps hitting the king ping about 3/4 of the way back, like the king pin is not full against the front lip of the hitch, but I cant get it to move any farther up in to the hitch, When I hitch the trailer, you can hear the chocked trailer wheels squeal from being pushed back from the hit. Im not high hitching, something is just not right. Are these two Reese products compatable?

The Pro Series 5th wheel hitch, # PS30093, is compatible with a Sidewinder. The issue could still be the universal wedge. I recommend removing the wedge and see if it hooks up fine without it. Then you should be able to get the wedge in place with a little persuasion.
A Sidewinder king pin has the same standard size king pin found on any other 5th wheel trailer so the only difference is the wedge. The wedge can be oriented a few different ways like you have said so it may just be an issue of finding the right configuration.
You also have to make sure that you have greased the wedge and the back side of the king pin on the Sidewinder. Take a look at the instructions I have linked starting on page 7. It talks about how the wedge should be oriented on a Pro Series hitch (among others). Make sure that the wedge is flat against the bottom of the Sidewinder with no space between the two. I have also linked a video and if you go to about the 3:00 minute mark they talk about the wedge and hooking up.
