The Thule OutWay trunk mount bike rack # TH45JV is listed as a fit for all models of the 2005 Mini Cooper with the exception of the convertibles. The R50, Mini One, or first generation, however it is referred to, can be fitted with either the 2 bike # TH45JV or the 3 bike # TH56BV.

I own one of these racks and my family and I love it. It is by far the easiest bike rack I have ever used. The retractable cables are my favorite feature because they make installation quick and easy with no loose straps flapping in the wind like with other trunk mounts.

One tip I can offer is to make sure that the rack and vehicle are clean where they come into contact with each other to avoid scratches to the vehicle paint. A coat of wax will also help.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wife's bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all.
