Where to Run the Ground Wire of a Tekonsha Plug-In Harness # 3040-P on a 2005 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

Got the P3 and wiring harness. Plug and play part is easy but that white ground? Any idea fr a good ground location for my vehicle. Looked under and do see several metal bolts holding brackets but nothing looks like frame to attach. Want to be sure I get this right.

When we installed this Tekonsha Harness # 3040-P in a 2004 Toyota 4Runner similar to your 2005 we used a trim panel bolt and it worked fine. If you check out the video I attached you can see exactly what bolt I am referring to.

I also attached a pic that I took from the video that shows the bolt and the wire as well. Fast forward to the 1:30 area to see the portion of the video that deals with the ground wire.

The self-tapping screw for the p3040 ground wire was missing from my packaging. What length and width screw do I need?

The grounding screw doesn't need to be a specific size. A simple sheet metal screw like the #8 x 1/2" # 101131802 will work well.

@ChrisR Thanks. I was more concerned about the screw going too deep and into the floor of the truck. I ended up getting #8 1/2” screws. That seemed to do the trick.
