Yakima BackSwing vs. Kuat Pivot Swing Away Hitch Extender For Bike Rack

Question:

Hi, Id like to know which swing arm you recommend between the Yakima Backswing and Kuat Pivot 2. The most important for me is sturdiness, durability and ease of use. It we be on my F350 with a truck camper for 4 bikes. Thanks!

Those are two good choices, but between the Kuat and Yakima swing away extenders, I definitely recommend going with the option from Yakima, which is the following part number:

- Yakima BackSwing Swing Away Hitch Extender # Y02483

There are a couple reasons I like the BackSwing # Y02483 over the Pivot # PVP20B, starting with the fact that it will be easier to get to your hitch and mount, simply due to the fact it weighs 11 lbs less (35 lbs compared to 46 lbs). These can be awkward to handle in the first place due to their configuration, so a lighter option just makes it simpler, particularly if you are going to take it on and off your truck on even a semi-regular basis.

The BackSwing being lighter doesn't mean less durable though, as it comes with a lifetime warranty (as does the Pivot), so it will absolutely hold up and is highly sturdy. It's also really easy to use by just puling a lever and pin to open the swing arm, and it locks in place when extended.

Another reason for the BackSwing # Y02483 being the better option is its superior clearances; it has a higher rise in the shank (3-1/2" to 3") for better ground clearance, and has better bumper clearance as well to keep it safely from the back of your truck.
