What is Causing My Trailer to Not Have Running Lights when Towed by My 2014 Ford Edge?

Question:

Hi, I have a 2014 Ford Edge with the tow package. I’ve tried several different lights and none have running lights. I can’t seem to find the running light fuse for the trailer package. Do you know which fuse it is?

If your 2014 Ford Edge (with tow package) has brake and turn signals but no running lights, you are correct in exploring a blown fuse. From the research I have available, the fuse that runs the running lights is fuse 10A.

In addition to the fuse, I recommend taking a voltage reading at the tail light pin of your Edge. If you are getting power there, you can rule out an issue on the Edge itself. If you do not, in fact, receive a reading a the tail light pin, that is a definite sign that the problem lies on the trailer's-side wiring.

I recommend checking to make sure that there is no fraying or shorts along the brake light wiring on your trailer. Also, it is important to make sure that all grounds are attached to a clean, corrosion-free piece of metal. Another thing to check is to make sure the trailer connector is clean of any corrosion or build-up that may interfere with the signal. In order to test wiring for shorts, I recommend taking periodical readings throughout the length of the wire using a voltage reader like the Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993.
