Does Thule Offer a Hitch Mounted Platform Bike Rack Option For Carrying 3 Bikes
Question:
I currently own the TH83GC. I was wondering if I can add on anything to make it a 3 bike rack. I know I can buy an extension to make it a 4 bike option. But, since I only need to carry 3 bikes, I do not want to have a longer center bar as it will be sticking out unnecessarily. Is there a way, I can add a smaller bar which will add only one more bike? Thanks

In the platform bike arena there are only two choices - either 2 bike or 4 bike. I understand not wanting to add the extra distance on the back of your vehicle, however, a single bike expansion attachment is not available. If you determine you do want the Thule 2 bike Expansion Accessory # TH83GC, please make sure your vehicle can hold the additional weight of the accessory which is 33 lbs, plus the weight of your bike.
Another option to carry three bikes is a hanging rack. The Thule Helium # TH9043PRO is an aluminum rack that only weighs 19-1/2 lbs. This rack fits a 2 inch receiver and has many benefits such as a lock for your rack to your hitch as well as a lock for your bikes to your rack.
The last option to add a single bike is to carry the additional bike on your roof. If you can let me know the make and model of your vehicle as well as how your roof is equipped, I can recommend a specific roof mounted bike rack. I have attached a FAQ covering how to choose a roof-mounted bike rack.
