Can Roadmaster Stow Master 5000 Tow Bar be Used to Flat Tow a 2009 Honda Pilot Behind a Motor Home
Question:
Is my Stowmaster 5000 serial number 110269 from about 1998 work with my 2009 Honda Pilot? I plan on purchasing and installing the Roadmaster 1562-1 base plates for the vehicle. We will be pulling the Honda with our Winnebago Journey diesel pusher, which is equipped with air brakes and air suspension. In addition to the base plate, I anticipate we will need just the remote braking system. Which braking system is recommended for a coach with air brakes? Anything else?

Your Stowmaster 5000 tow bar will work with the base plates, # 1562-1, for your 2009 Honda Pilot. In addition to these two items, you will also need safety cables, # RM-643, a lighting solution and the supplemental braking system.
For lighting I recommend the diode kit, # 154-792-118158. According to my research you will need to pull a fuse to flat tow the Pilot. Check the owners manual in the recreational towing section to confirm. To make disconnecting the fuse easier I recommend using a fuse bypass, # RM76511. Once connected you can bypass the fuse with the flip of a switch.
For supplemental braking system I recommend the Even Brake proportional system, # RM-9400. This will apply the Pilot brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. This system will not be affected by the air brakes on the RV.
I have included a couple of helpful links on flat towing for you.
