Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2005 Chevy Equinox

Question:

Hello, We are towing a 2009 Chalet Alpine with a 2005 Chevy Equinox LT. On paper, thats no problem for the Chevy that is rated at 3500lb towing capacity. The trailer dry weight is 1400. The tongue weight is 160 lb. However, the rear of the car does sag and the front gets light once the trailer is hooked. The rear shocks on the Chevy are the original manufacturer specs which is fairly soft. Would you upgrade to heavy duty shocks or go with a weight distribution hitch system? If the latter, would the Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution w Sway Control - Round Bar - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW, Item # RE34FR be adequate? Thanks

As long as you have a hitch installed on your 2005 Chevy Equinox that was rated for weight distribution use like the etrailer part # e98865 weight distribution will be your best option as it will reduce suspension sag like you want, but since it's only option that also distributes tongue weight up to the front axle braking and handling is improved as well.

The Reese Pro Round Bar part # RE34FR would be an excellent choice that is rated correctly.
