How to Choose the Right Wheel Size for Trailer With 9 Inch Wheels

Question:

This is the wheel/tire combo suggested. However, I need to have a high speed rating of 80mph. Is this still the right choice? Or do yall have something else?

The wheels you have, while not common, are definitely a size used on trailers. These are 9" wheels that have a rim width of 4-1/2". When compared to a fairly common 8" wheel with a width of 3-3/4" or a 10" wheel with a width of 6" the size of your current wheels isn't anything unusual.

I would recommend sticking with the wheels you have now. Although I don't know how many axles you have or the specific hubs on the trailer, more than likely they have enough capacity unless someone added hubs that don't correspond to your axle capacity which is unlikely. If you need to replace your tires, we have the # AM10040 which are 6.90/6.00-9 tires with a capacity of 1,298 lbs at 60 psi.

If you need a higher speed rating you will not be able to use the # AM10040 which means you will need new wheels and tires. These tires will be limited to 65 mph. Based on your current tire size I would recommend the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel - 4 on 4 - LR D # AM35351DX. These will wheels have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern and the tires have a speed rating of M for 81 mph. The section width is less than the 6.90/6.00-9 tires and the outer diameter is only .2" more so you will not have any clearance issues. These have a maximum load of 1,220 lbs at 65 psi. Depending on how many axles you have you will want to be aware of the tire capacity.
