Parts Needed to Tow a Jon Boat Trailer with a 2003 Toyota RAV4
Question:
I am planning to tow a 12 ft Alumacraft jon boat, model 1236 jon, with my 2003 Toyota Rav4. Before I order the hitch, and receiver I was hoping you could help me to determine that I have picked out one that will do the job properly and safely. Most of the time I will only be towing for about a 1/4 of a mile. If you could also help me with any other parts I should consider, like the proper ball, receiver and wiring kit. If I am going to order the hitch I would like to know everything I will need so I can order everything at once. If I can provide any other information and you wouldnt mind helping me I would really appreciate it.

The Curt hitch # C13524 that you have referenced is a good choice. It has more than enough capacity to safely tow the boat and trailer. However, before doing any towing you will want to consult the vehicle owners manual to determine what the vehicles towing capacities are and not exceed them. Even if the hitch is rated higher you still must go by the lowest rating.
I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. For trailer wiring I recommend # 118389 which plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. I have linked instructions for the hitch and wiring and a video for the wiring as well.
