Weight Capacity Per Cable And Hook Dimensions For Blue Ox, Roadmaster, And Demco Safety Cables

Question:

I am looking towing safety cables from Roadmaster, Blue Ox, and Demco. Are the cable ratings for the cables based on a pair cables as set, or each individual cable? ex. is a 10,000 lbs rating for two cables meaning that each cable as a 5,000 lbs rating? I believe the Demco is a based on a set. What is the diameter of the hooks for the following cables? Blue Ox 7,500 lbs Roadmaster 7,500 lbs Demco 14,000 lbs

Expert Reply:

The weight capacity listed for cables is for the pair. For example the Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables - 7,500lbs # BX88196 you referenced would have a 3,750lb capacity per cable. Since Roadmaster doesn't have a 7,500lb cable I'm assuming you're referencing the RoadMaster 76" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables # RM-645-76. I've drawn up some dimensions for these two cables as well as the Demco Coiled Safety Cables # DM9523003 you referenced below.
