Weight Distribution System for a Trailer with 1,000 Pounds Tongue Weight
Question:
If the tounge weight on a trailer is 1000lbs do I need bars that say 500 lbs for a combined weight of 1000lbs or do I buy the bars that say 1000lbs on them?

If the tongue weight of the trailer is 1,000 pounds you need bars that exceed that weight. Both 500 and 1,000 pound bars would not be enough to be effective. The rating on a bar is for a set so if a bar says 500 pounds then the system, including both bars, is rated for 500 pounds.
For 1,000 pounds tongue weight I recommend a system that is rated for 800 to 1500 pounds tongue weight like # RP66130. This system also includes dual-cam sway control. You will just need a properly sized ball like # 63840 and a shank. I have linked the shanks that fit for you.
I have also linked instructions and a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution and sway control for you.
