Reese Weight Distribution Shank with 7 Inch Drop for a 2008 Chevy Suburban 2500
Question:
I purchased a complete Reese pro hitch. it has worked well. I have been towing with a 2001 Chevy Tahoe. The shank allowed for about 2inch of drop, perfect for the 18inch hitch height. I have now purchased a 2008 Chevy Suburban 2500. the hitch height is 25inch on this vehicle. I need a shank that will give as close to 7inch of drop as possible. do I have to stay with the Reese shank, or can I use a Curt shank? Very few items list the spacing of the adjustment holes on the shank. some are advertised as 1 1/4inch and some are 1 1/ 2 . Are the Reese and Curt compatible? thanks for any help you can offer.

It is best to use a shank that matches the brand of the weight distribution system you have. I recommend Reese shank # RP3344 which has a max drop of 8-5/8 inches on round bar systems. The next lowest setting would be at 7-3/8 inches which is right in the wheel house for towing the trailer level.
Curt weight distribution shanks do have the same hole spacing on the shank at 1-1/4 inches but in order to ensure compatibility and capacities I still recommend the Reese shank.
