Is the 190 Watt Go Power Overlander Solar Charging System Enough To Keep Fridge Powered

Question:

I have a jayco northpoint pre-wired for go power solar. Would 1 190 watt panel be sufficient just to keep my 2 12 volt batteries topped off while traveling, I have a residential refrigerator and have noticed that on really long trips my batteries are very low till I arrive at my destination. Thanks

The only way to know for sure what size solar panel you need is to calculate how much power is being drawn from the battery. Therefore, if you have a 12 volt refrigerator that pulls power while in transit you need to know how much power it pulls and what length of time you'd expect to be pulling said power so you can then choose the correct solar panel to replenish it. That said, a solar panel won't provide optimal output while in motion so you'll need to factor that into your calculations. I have attached an article if you would like to learn more.

The Go Power Overlander Solar Charging System part # 34282181 provides 9.3 amps per hour at peak. If you take the Furrion Arctic RV Refrigerator part # FR42SR for example which draws 15 amps per hour you are left with a deficit but you should still be charging the batteries from the tow vehicle as well so it will be close. You can add another panel like part # 34272629 if needed after the fact.
