Drum to Disk Brake Conversion on a 1998 Mastercraft Tandem Axle Trailer
Question:
I have a 1998 Mastercraft tandem axel trailer with drum brakes on all 4 wheels would like to switch to disk brakes. Should I keep all 4 wheels with brakes? or can I go to 2 wheels with disk brakes On front axel? Is there a kit. Thanks

You need to keep brakes on all four of your wheels. Most states require both axles to have brakes and if you are traveling through one of these states you are required to follow state laws no matter where you are from. We do have disc brake kits that will fit your 1998 Mastercraft Tandem Axle Trailer. The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 10" Hub/Rotor - 5 on 4-1/2 - Dacromet and Stainless - 3,500 lbs item # K2HR35DS you were looking at would be a great option. This kit fits 3,500 lbs axles with a #84 Spindle that has Inner bearing item # L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) and outer bearing item # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter). It works with 13" wheels or larger and has a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern.
You will also need the Dexter DX Series Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes item # K71-651. This brake actuator will provide the required PSI you need to run disc brakes.
When you change over to electric over hydraulic brakes you will need a EOH controller to run your disc brakes. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller item # 90195.
