Base Plate For 1991 Suzuki Samurai to Flat Tow With Roadmaster Nighthawk Tow Bar
Question:
I am trying to determine which baseplate I need to flat tow my 1991 Suzuki Samurai using the RM Night Hawk tow bar. I believe the RM Classic base plate is the correct one. However I found some QandA that suggest otherwise because of the front leaf springs. This despite that your site confirms it fits all Samurai if that generation had front leaf springs. Also, I need to know where on the vehicle frame the base plate attaches due to an aftermarket bumper I have. Thanks!

There is indeed a base plate for a 1991 Suzuki Samurai, so long as it does not have a brush guard, but does have front tie-downs. I checked with Roadmaster, and it is also compatible with the Nighthawk, but will need an adapter as it is a crossbar-style base plate. The correct part are the following:
- Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 1003-1
- Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-676
- Replacement Quick Disconnect Crossbar Assembly for Roadmaster Motorhome Mounted Tow Bars # 910021-00
The base plate attaches to the bottom frame of your Samurai, and I have added a link below to the installation instructions which may give you a better idea. Keep in mind, this is designed to fit the factory set up only, and there isn't a way to verify a fit with an aftermarket bumper.
If it does allow you to install the base plates, the other parts you will need to finish your flat tow set up are Wiring Kit # RM-152 and Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39494.
