I have a great gravel-road solution for you. Unfortunately, since the pewag Servi RS Chains # PWRS74 are only rated for on-road use only, they are not compatible with gravel roads.
With that being said, I assume that you have standard 225/45-17 tires on your 2010 Volkswagen Golf. We do have great chains that are confirmed to fit your tires that are constructed for both on and off-road use. Those chains are the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - Twist Links - 1 Pair # TC1134. Like the pewag chains, the Titan Chains are Class-S chains that are constructed for vehicles with limited wheel well clearance. They also prevent jarring which is common with square chain designs. For a great set of tensioners that prevent the headache of having to adjust the chains after each trip, I recommend the Multi-Arm Adjusters # PW105.
With the Titan Chains, they require a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well and at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself. I went ahead and included a diagram that shows you how to measure your wheel well clearance on your Golf.
As with all tire chain applications, I recommend consulting with your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure that you abide by all of the manufacturer's guidelines.
