What Cargo Basket do You Recommend for My Crossbars on My 2017 Forest River Flagstaff 228D?

Question:

I have a 2021 forrest River flagstaff 228D popup camper that came with roof top cross bars for luggage. They are about 24 inches apart We have been using a soft cargo bag for soft things - blankets etc. I want a cargo basket to put a soft bag in. We want to put all the duffle bags and down comforters and blankets. Our manual says only 100 pounds so one that holds 150 would be good. I have read so many Amazon reviews of the carriers rusting quickly and ruining. Their roofs. Please let us know the options Thank You

If you have crossbars on your 2017 Forest River Flagstaff 228D popup camper that have a crossbar spread of 24 inches, a great basket option is the Rhino-Rack Roof Mounted Steel Cargo Basket - 57" Long x 42" Wide # RMCB02. Since the basket measures 57 inches long x 42 inches wide, you have plenty of space to mount your cargo bag. Your crossbar spread also fits within the compatibility range of the basket. The basket also comes with a black powder coat that resists rust and corrosion. Without knowing the exact thickness and height of your crossbars, I recommend measuring your crossbars to make sure they do not exceed 3-1/2" wide x 1-1/4" tall.

Even though the weight capacity of the Rhino-Rack # RMCB02 is 165 pounds, it is important to adhere to the 100-pound limit of your owner's manual. If you need an additional securing method in addition to your cargo bag, the Curt Stretchable Cargo Net - 38" Wide x 65" Long # C18201 works great with the basket.

If you are really concerned about rust, we do have an aluminum basket that will not rust. Although, it is a bit smaller. It is the Aluminum Roof Mounted Cargo Basket - 44" Long x 39" Wide # 288-09200. The Stallion aluminum basket will fit crossbars that do not exceed 2" tall x 4-3/4" wide.
