Recommended Trunk Mounted Bike Rack for 2013 Mazda CX5

Question:

What would be the best bike rack for a Mazda CX5? I dont have a roof rack and dont really want to add the weight of a Hidden Trailer Hitch. Is there a rack that will safely fit on the hatch without harming the window overhang and window?

We have numerous 2 or 3 capacity bike racks from Thule and Hollywood Racks that are compatible with your 2013 Mazda CX-5.

My contact at Thule tells me that their testing has shown that the spoiler that overhangs the rear hatch is strong enough to use a trunk mounted rack without being damaged. Of the various Thule racks available, I really like the OutWay, part # TH45JV for a 2-bike model or # TH56BV for a 3-bike model. Rather than the 4-6 buckles and straps used by other racks, the Raceway uses 2 rubber-coated straps that make installation and removal of the rack fast and incredibly easy.

The Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2 bike rack, part # HRF2 avoids the issue altogether by adding an additional support bar that allows the top rack straps to pass over the top of the spoiler without hanging on it.

To carry women's bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # TH982XT is recommended. The adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar gooseneck, and provides a level attachment point to the bike rack so the bike has greater ground clearance and is not carried at an angle.
