Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring that Doesnt Work When Using 4-Way to 7-Way Adapter

Question:

Finally i took off the kick plate and checked to make sure my truck had the relay harness installed. It was, but upon removing the sticky wrapping on the relays, there was only one blue relay installed. All the install kits show two. Could this cause my problem? And if it could, any idea of the relay number - non visible on the one i have.

Are there a lot of lights on the trailer? It sounds like maybe the trailer is wanting to draw more amperage than the Nissan is putting out on the trailer wiring circuits but your Chevy truck happens to have more capacity. When you say the lights short out do you mean they just don't turn on?

One way to lower the amperage draw of a trailer's lighting is convert the incandescent bulbs/fixtures to LED as they draw considerably less. I attached a page that has all of the LED trailer taillights we carry.

The blue relays for the Nissan towing packages are for the turn signals. Since you have those circuits working it would not be related to them.
