Any trunk mount bike rack on any vehicle has the potential to scratch or dent the vehicle. However there are things that you can do to prevent this from occurring such as not overloading the rack and making sure the rack and vehicle are clean where they come into contact with each other.
I own the Thule OutWay # TH56BV and have not had any scratches or dents on my vehicle loaded with 3 bikes. Be sure that you remove the rack when not in use and drive carefully over bumpy roads to limit the stress at the points that secure the rack.
If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all.
