Finding The Correct Sidewinder Pin Box Using The 5th Wheel Trailer Chassis Tag

Question:

We have an older Lippert box but not sure what model exactly. Trying to match a Reese M5 for our 2019 RAM 3500 Mega Cab and Airborne Sidewinder for clearance to that box. We know the hitch will work but there are 3 different Airbornes to choose from. Any chance with the attached photo you could decode the box? Thanks.

I spoke with Lippert and confirmed the bolt pattern of your pin box is a 1716, thanks to the chassis tag picture you sent in. Since we know the bolt pattern now we just need to match the weight capacity. You'll need to check the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and ensure your under the specific capacity of the hitch. I've listed the options below in order of weight capacity for you to choose the correct pin box for your application.

5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin w/ Sidewinder and Turret - 16,000lbs # RP61412.

Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret - Lippert 1716 - 20,000lbs # RP77FR.

You'll also need the Reese M5 Sidewinder Wedge Kit # RP44FR to prevent the king pin of the sidewinder pin box from rotating in the jaws of the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package # RP30918 you referenced.
