What Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 2011 Toyota RAV4?

Question:

Hello, Would the 2011 Toyota RAV4 require S-class snow chains/cables? I looked in the user manual but it did not mention that specifically. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks,

I double-checked the owner's manual for your 2011 Toyota RAV4, and you are correct in saying that the manual does not mention Class S requirements for tire chains/cables. However, Class S chains are generally a great idea because they are made for vehicles with limited wheel well clearance. Chains also gives you more overall traction than cables. For example, for a great option for class S chains, I recommend the Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - XG12 Pro # TH01594245. These chains come with self-tensioners to take the headache out of tightening the chains after each trip. These chains only fit your RAV4 if you have standard 225/65-17 or 235/55-18 tires. For these chains, you need a minimum of 12mm of wheel well clearance. I went ahead and attached a diagram that shows you how to measure this clearance.

If you have standard 215/70-16 tires, I recommend the Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - XG12 Pro # TH2004705235. Like the previous chains, these chains also have self-tensioners and are Class-S rated. Also, these chains require 12mm of wheel well clearance as well.

As with all tire chains, I recommend checking over your user's manual to make sure that you are abiding by all the guidelines outlined.
