Since the fuse keeps blowing (I assume when a trailer is connected) then there is probably an issue on the trailer, possibly with the magnets or wiring. To check the magnets, start with the wiring. You need to look for any breaks in the wires that might be touching bare metal. The grounds need to go to a corrosion free bare metal surface near the magnets.
Visually inspect the magnets and if you can see the windings coming through then they will need to be replaced. To further test the magnets I have included a link to an FAQ you can follow.
Also check the trailer and vehicle connectors for any dirt or corrosion. Corrosion can also build up at the backs of the connectors where the wires attach. If the issue continues to happen you may need to have a GM tech take a look at it.
If you do decide on installing an aftermarket controller, we have an FAQ for that as well that explains everything you need to do. I have linked it for you. For a brake controller I recommend the very popular P2, # 90885. It is a very reliable controller that is easy to set up and easy to use.
