Determining if Thule Motion XT XL Cargo Box Can Fit 2012 Honda CR-V and Allow Hatch Clearance

Question:

Im trying to see how bad my rear hatch will hit if I purchase the thule Motion XT XL 18 cf. Reviewing the various QandA, there was a reference to some videos on a 2013 CR-V with various test mounts, but couldnt find the videos. Most of the responses are for users to take a measurementI know Im just short of having enough space, but I need to know how bad it will be. My problem is that I need to transport 4 sets of Nordic Skis, all are 190CM in length. It seems there is no good carrier for this as a 16cf box will be too short. it would seem that I would need a Yakima CBX 18 or a Thule Motion/Force XT XL 18cf. Do you have any videos on how poorly it will impact my hatch opening or have any guidance on what rooftop box might work? Ive purchased through etrailer before and really like your company...would love to find a solution your company offers. Thanks! Thanks!

I can help you determine if the Thule Motion XT XL part # TH629806 will hit your rear hatch if you open it with the box installed but I can't give you an exact range of motion the box will allow if it were to interfere. You'd have to measure from the front crossbar center back to the rear hatch seat on the roof of the vehicle. If that measurement is 51-1/4 inches or more you'd have zero interference. If it's less than that by just a little bit you'd most likely just have a little bit of interference. If it's a lot less it would be somewhat smaller of a range.

The Yakima CBX 18 part # Y86FR actually requires more clearance at 52-1/4 inches. Currently the cargo box we offer with the shortest front clearance requirement that can accommodate a 190 cm ski length is the Motion XL 18.
