Maintenance Charge for a Trailer Mounted Battery through a 7-Way Trailer Connector and a GMC Acadia
Question:
I,m mounting remote battery on trailer hitch platform on GMC Acadia with trailering package. To supply maintenance charge do I connect both 12v feed from # 4 on vehicle to pos batt term AND # 1 common on vehicle to neg term on battery? Have 20 amp fuse on pos lead.

Expert Reply:
To supply a maintenance charge to an auxiliary battery you would connect the 12 volt circuit from a 7-Way trailer connector to the positive terminal of the battery. If the battery is mount on the trailer you would ground it to the trailer frame and it also would not hurt to ground it to the main trailer connector ground.
This method will provide a maintenance charge like you have said but it will not charge up a battery. For a battery charger I recommend the CTEK 7002 charger # CTEK56353.
