Troubleshooting a Brake Controller Install on a 2003-2006 Chevy Silverado
Question:
I have a tekonsha brake controller box. But I have a Hayes brake controller wiring harness model 081780-HBC. Based on the package its for a 03-06 model truck. But I connected the black to black white to white blue to blue and red to red. But for some reason its not working. I checked for voltage at my junction box and have it. But not to the box. Could the pins be in the wrong location.

If you have voltage at the pins and all the connections are made under your hood that need to be made, (see attached FAQ if not) then either the wires are run to the wrong places or the brake controller is bad.
You should try plugging in your harness into the junction box and then testing the other end of the harness for voltage there and then if that checks out wire up your brake controller. If the controller is still not working then the problem is the controller.
Nearly every brake controller uses the same color codes, so it seems unlikely that it is wired up incorrectly. I suspect the problem lies in the underhood connections, (see FAQ).
