For the hitch with the highest weight capacity we carry for your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, that is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # DT38MR. The Draw-Tite provides you with an impressive 900 pound tongue weight and a 7,500 pound gross trailer weight capacity. The hitch comes with all mounting hardware required for installation. As with all hitch receivers, I recommend confirming with your vehicle's owner's manual that you can safely tow with the weight you wish to transport.

As far as wiring for a 7-way, you need a 4-way installed on the vehicle first. For that part, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118727. The converter box in the Tekonsha harness is higher-quality than the Curt # C62VR.

Once the 4-way is installed, you are ready for the 7-way. That is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller 7-Way # ETBC7. With this kit, you will be able to splice into your vehicle's wiring to prep for a brake controller.

To add a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 or the Curt Echo # C51180. Both of these controllers are proportional controllers which means that the controller activates the trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. The Voyager is more of a traditional-style controller than requires mounting into the dashboard of your vehicle near the steering wheel. If you decide on going with the Voyager, you need the additional plug-in # TK93VR On the other hand, the Curt Echo allows you to control the settings of your controller with the ease of your Smart device.
