For determining whether the Kuat Transfer V2 # KU84FR will allow you to fully open your rear hatch on your 2008 Toyota 4Runner Sport with bikes loaded, it depends on three factors: where your hitch installs on your vehicle, the length of your rear hatch, and the length of your bikes' handlebars. Since the Transfer V2 measures 8-15/16 inches from the center of the shank's pinhole to the closest cradle position of the rack when tilted, we can determine a rough estimate of its fitment on your vehicle. Of course, with this measurement, you need to factor in how far your hitch recedes into the vehicle as well as the handlebar length of your bikes. I went ahead and provided a diagram that shows the tilted dimensions of the Transfer V2.
However, if you want an option that will absolutely allow you to open the rear hatch of your vehicle, I recommend using the Transfer V2 along with the Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender for Bike Racks - 2" Hitches
# PVP20B. With the swing-away adapter, the rack can be angled at 90 degrees or 120 degrees to avoid the hatch's path. I went ahead and linked a review video of the Pivot installed on a 2019 Toyota Highlander. It is important to note that using the Pivot 2 will reduce your hitch's weight capacity by 50%.
If you need a hitch receiver for your 4Runner, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13445. Not only does this hitch provide you with 500 pounds of maximum tongue weight and 5,000 pounds of maximum gross towing weight, it comes with a outer gloss coat over the base powder coat that provides superior rust and corrosion resistance. Even though we do not have the measurement of how far this hitch recedes into your 2008 Toyota 4Runner, you should not have bumper clearance issues if you use the Pivot 2 with the bike rack.
