For your application I recommend going with the Tekonsha Prodigy iD # TK49VR which will plug into the connector under the dash of your 2022 Subaru Ascent by using the Wiring Adapter # 3062-P.

I really like this brake controller for a few reasons; it has a new design which allows it to be installed virtually anywhere, the control know looks like it is OEM and it isn't as big as a standard controller so you're saving on in-cab real-estate, plus the control knob has a small LED screen so you can see your settings instead of having to memorize color codes to know what's going on.
