Added Security of Safety Chains
Question:
Hi- what about using mid -grade pad locks to attach my safety chains to to car hitch- instead of using the hooks? Would those locks handle the jerk of an accident- plus add some security?

I can't speak of the grade of material the locks would be made from relative to the hooks on the 48" Long Safety Chain, # TCTSCG30-748-04x2 that have been quality tested and approved for this application. Safety chains or cables are required by law and these items are constructed to meet/exceed a minimum standard. My suggestion is to install any item per the manufacturer directions, but if improved security is desired then please consider the Buyers Products 9/32" x 34" Class 2 Trailer Safety Chain with Quick Link Connectors, # 337B93234SC. These attach using the quick link rather than a hook. If you want security from someone being able to remove them, then use a pad lock from the hitches loop to the chain link for added theft security.
