Can a Class II Hitch on a Chrysler Town and Country Be Used to Transport a Mobility Scooter
Question:
I have a Class II Hitch with a 2 inch receiver, mounted on a Chrysler Town and Country. Can I safely use this carrier for a mobility scooter weighing under 300 pounds?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The trailer hitch receiver on your Chrysler Town & Country has a safety warning sticker on it that will indicate the maximum tongue weight (TW) allowable for that hitch. This applies to both the 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch size hitch receivers made for your vehicle.
The rated tongue weight capacity will include the weight of the carrier you choose to transport the scooter plus the weight of the scooter itself. For example, if your hitch has a tongue weight rating of 400 lbs, and you were to use a carrier like the Reese # PS10401-10402, which weighs 101 lbs, you would be able to safely load up to a 299-lb scooter even though the carrier is rated to hold up to 500 lbs. I have provided a link to our department page for this and other hitch-mount carriers.
