How To Obtain Stop Light Switch Circuit for Trailer Brake Controller On 2016 Volvo XC90
Question:
I have a 2016 Volvo XC90 with a C56285 harness installed. I needed to adapt the 4-way to a 7-way and have a C57672 in line to power the trailer lights. Everything works fine and Id like to add a C56285 brake controller and am wondering the best place to splice in the red stoplight wire. Can I tap into the C56285 harness for the cold side stoplight switch? Thanks!

I do have an option for you but if you want to install a traditional trailer brake controller you'll need to splice into the stop light switch wire which is best found under the dash at the brake pedal. That said, I have a better option for this vehicle that takes all the splicing out of the equation. The Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controller part # C51180 is a wireless controller that only requires 12 volt power so you can use an adapter like the 4 to 7-Way with 4-Way Adapter part # ETBC7L and there is no splicing required.
There is no way to obtain the stop light switch circuit from the trailer harness as this has combined stop and turn signal circuits.
