Recommended Bike Rack For A 2017 Kia Forte With Class 1 Hitch

Question:

Hello, I just got a class 1 trailer hitch put on my 2017 Kia Forte LX Sedan. I believe its a Curt. Do you have any recommendations for something that can comfortably carry two trek mountain bikes, one aluminum and one steel? After weighing them, I can tell you that one of them is 35 pounds, and the other one is 38 pounds. I know its recommended to carry no more than 35 pounds per bike with a class 1 hitch, but would that extra two pounds really make that a difference? Im a complete newb to this, so any info you could provide would be helpful. I would prefer a hanging hitrch, not a platform rack, simply because I want this to be able to fit comfortably in my trunk, and besides, Im sure that a platform rack is probably out of the question anyway due to the 200 lb tongue limit. Convenience features would be nice, but the most important thing to me is weight capacity per bike. Thanks!

I have just the bike rack for you, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider Bike Rack for 2 Recumbent Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # HR1000Z-R has a per bike weight capacity of 50lbs and only weighs 36.5lbs itself so it will be well under your class 1 hitch's tongue weight capacity. Because the hanging bike racks we carry all max out in weight capacity at 37.5lbs this is going to be the only option that's going to safely handle the weight of your bikes. It does fold up with a total length coming in at approximately 62". Exceeding the weight capacity of the bike rack can put undo stress on it and shorten the lifespan of the rack components and do so knowingly will void the manufacturer warranty, making you liable for any damages.

This rack has adjustable wheel hoops that slide back and forth to eliminate bike-to-bike contact with hand knobs that allow for easy adjustments for multiple wheelbases. The ratcheting hooks on the center mast quickly ratchet down to hold the bikes securely by the frame. It comes with an anti-rattle hitch pin that reduces movement of rack in hitch receiver as well as a keyed-alike hitch lock and frame hooks to deter theft of your bikes and the rack. This rack is also compatible with 2" hitch receivers as well if you plan to use it on other vehicles.
