Comparing and Choosing Best Hard Retractable Tonneau Cover for a 2022 Ford Ranger 5 Foot Bed

I'm looking for a retractable hard tonneau cover for the 5 foot bed on my 2022 Ford Ranger. There are a ton of choices that I'm seeing. Is there a way to know what the differences are? Which one do you recommend?

There are a lot of different options when it comes to hard retractable tonneau covers for your 2022 Ford Ranger so I definitely get where you are coming from and I do have a recommendation for you.

My absolute favorite retractable tonneau cover is the RetraxPRO XR Hard Tonneau Cover # RTX48FR because it has a matte black finish that will match the trim on your Ranger, the aluminum cover can be locked anywhere along the rails, and the rails have T-Slots so that you can mount some crossbars or a ladder rack like the OverHaul HD # Y01151-5855 for some extra cargo space.

When it comes to comparing the various covers you will see basic ones that operate manually all the way up to powered ones that will open and close with the click of a button. All of the retractable covers will be a hard cover but then you're looking at the material of polycarbonate vs aluminum. Then for the finish you'll see the classic gloss finish or the matte black finish. The rails also have options for those T-Slots or not.

Hi I am anso interested about same retrax tonneau cover. I have also a Ford ranger XLT 2023 5 ft built for Pacific/Asia market (left wheel drive). Top box cargo area (front and rear) width is 55,9 in. Can you tell me if canister can fit to the cargo? Do you have any idea of the canister lenght (should be less then 55,9 in.)? Thanks for your help.

@Jacques The RetraxPRO XR Hard Tonneau Cover # RTX48FR measures 54.875" wide and the rails are 60" long. When I reached out to my contact at Retrax he said the truck beds for the US model and your Asia/Pacific model are a little different so this cover won't fit properly. He did say it looks like Ford made the 2024 Ranger universal worldwide so if you haven't purchased the truck yet you might consider the 2024 model and you can use that Cover # RTX48FR for the newest model Ranger instead.

@JonG BTW, if the top cargo of my ford ranger nextgen is 55.9" wide (so 1" in high than retrax) and 59.84" long, then the ReteaxPRO XR should fit on the car. What do you think about that ?

@Jacques I can only go off of what my contact at Retrax relayed to me. If you have the 2023 model then the tonneau cover won't fit, but if you're getting the 2024 model then the cover will fit. We don't have the means to do test-fitting here (especially with Asia/Pacific models) and usually tonneau covers have tight tolerances. My dad bought a middle-tier cover for his truck a few years ago and after he installed it the cover didn't sit exactly right. After we looked at it he realized one of the rails was slightly off and that was causing the cover to kind of "bubble up" in one place so it wasn't completely flat until he fixed it.
