Brake Controller Recommendation for 2020 Jeep Cherokee Towing Off-Road Trailer

Question:

We have a 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Elite 4x4 with a towing package. We will be getting an off road tear trailer near the end of January with electric brakes. What proportional braking controller do you recommend and is there a video that shows how to hook it up to this Jeep I looked and no luck so far or do we need to pay to have it installed? The trailer base weight of 1500 is the only one we would ever be towing. If it matters, the tear trailer we are getting is an escapod TOPO2. We are hoping to use a bike rack on the back of the trailer with two heavier bikes on it using a class II required bike rack. Others who have bought an escapod trailer have recommended your site to get a brake controller from. So Im hoping you can help a novice who is getting their first ever trailer. Thanks

Thank you for all of that excellent information, I have the perfect solution for you!

Since it sounds like you'll be taking your trailer off-road you'll want a brake controller that is flexible in what it can do. Enter the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR. This controller will simply plug into the port under your dash on your 2020 Jeep Cherokee using the Adapter # RED67FR, and the control knob is smaller and can be installed virtually anywhere so you can save on precious in-cab space.

The reason why the flexibility of this controller is key for your situation is because it has 2 modes; the proportional braking that you were looking for, and user-control which is essentially the classic time-delayed mode. Proportional is best for traveling on the highway and when you have good conditions, but user-control is best when you are traveling steep grades or going off-road. Simply put, the user-control mode will apply the same level of braking power that you chose prior to towing. This comes in handy in those steep climbs and off-road situations because you'll be moving slower. Since proportional controllers sense the speed of the towing setup you'll basically be getting no braking power to your trailer when you need it in those situations.

I'm attaching a review video of this brake controller for you to check out.
