Replacing Lippert Trailair Flex Air Pin Box Air Bag and Shock Assembly Tips

Question:

Are there any videos, written instructions, tips/tricks for replacing my TrailAIr pin box air bag? Mine is starting to show weather related wear and if nothing else, I would like to remove and give the bag a thorough inspection. Also should I consider replacing the shock absorber or at least the rubber bushings on the shock at the same time. It looks like a fairly straightforward job, but I dont want any surprises! Thank you

While I do not have any videos to offer you showing how to replace the Air Bag # LC432404 and Shock # LC177223 on your Trailair Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box # LC328492 I do have some tips that will help you.

If you have access to a transmission jack or work table that will match the height of your pin box that will be the easiest way otherwise I recommend doing the work from your bed with the pin box locked in the hitch to support it(Make sure the trailer is still supported by the landing gear). Once you have the trailer set and some way of controlling the head drain the air pressure from the air bag. You will begin by removing the shock bolts to remove the shock. Then remove the upper air bag mounting bolts. Next you will be able to lower the jaw to be able to access the air bag by either lowering the jack or raising the camper. The air bag will slide toward the drivers side and then be able to be lifted from the lower jaw.

Installation will be reverse of the removal.

I would just replace the Shock # LC177223 as an assembly. This part will wear down over time and begin to leak. Good preventative maintenance is to just replace the shock if you are unsure of its condition.
