Converting From 6 on 5-1/2 to 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern on Mobile Home Axles
Question:
I am considering converting the mobile home open rim to to 5 bolt rather than the 6 bolt in the QandA so that Ican inter change with my other bolt trailers. Do you have these conversion parts?

In order to switch from a hub and drum with a 6 bolt pattern to a 5 bolt pattern there are several things you are going to need to find out. The first thing you want to know is which 5 bolt pattern you are looking for. The most common is going to be 5 on 4-1/2 but there are several other possibilities. Once you have determined your bolt pattern, you will need to check your axle capacity and bearings in order to see if there is an available hub that fits.
A hub and drum assembly like the # 84546UC3 is designed for a 3,500 lb axle and uses inner bearing # L68149 and outer bearing # L44649 with a # 58846 grease seal. If you just need the idler hub the equivalent would be the # 84545BX. If you aren't sure which bearings and seal you currently have, you will need to find the part numbers on the bearings and seal or measure. See the diagram below for where to measure on your spindle.
If you find that you have different bearings, you will need to match them up with the correct hub and bolt pattern. If you are not sure, feel free to send me the measurements and I will help you find the correct one. Since this is a mobile home axle, it is entirely possible the bearings are not the standard and there won't be a replacement hub that fits.
I have attached some review videos along with a helpful article on how to measure bolt patterns for your reference. I also included a link with all of our hubs that have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern that you can check out.
