Recommended Tire Chains For A 2021 Ram 2500 With 285/60/20 Tires
Question:
I need to get some chains for my new Ram 2500 with 285/60/20 tires. I dont live in a snowy area but travel up in the mountains sometimes and while I doubt I will ever need to use them, the law requires you to carry them so I need something just in case. I am trying to figure out if cables or chains are better. Cables seem nice but I am wondering if actual chains might be better in case I actually need them someday if it is really icy or something. What do you guys recommend?

Tire cables, like the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC3029, will get you out of a dicey situation or two and will pass the getting everything legal test, but they are not long lived and will not get you the best traction. Especially with a larger vehicle like your 2021 Ram 2500.
With that said, I highly recommend going with chains. Specifically the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2335. These have square links arranged in a diamond pattern, offering superior traction when you need it most. These also have a manganese nickel alloy construction that is exceptionally strong, durable, and wont rust out after use. A plastic case is included for easy storage and transport as well. Along with the traction and durability, these have one more big plus. They have a built in rubber adjuster. This means you don't have to keep track of another part and it is a one stop shop kind of part.
As with any chains or cables I recommend, I always suggest test fitting them at least once in a warm and dry environment. Any and all chains and cables can be a pain in the butt to attach if you have never done it before, and this is amplified when it's cold and wet. Familiarity with the product makes for a much less stressful experience.
