How Do Brakes Get Power With a 4-Way to 7-Way Adapter
Question:
Where does the power to the brakes come from if I only have a 4-way flat to 7 way installed?

It sounds like you have a 4-way connection on your vehicle and added a 7-way adapter like the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter # C57672. Plugging your 4-way into this adapter will only give you the same functionality you had before, powering your trailer's signal lights. In order to get power to your brakes and be able to use your brake controller, you will need to run some additional wiring.
What you need is the Wiring Kit for 2, 4, 6, and 8 Brake Electric Trailer Brake Controllers # 5506. This wiring kit will allow you to wire the brake controller and 12V power to your 7-way at the back of your vehicle. If you do not have a 7-way adapter already, you can get the # ETBC7 which comes with the adapter and everything else you need to convert your 4-way to a 7-way.
I have attached some review and installation videos for your reference.
