How to Pick Out a Weight Distributions System for a 2006 Cadillac Escalade Towing a Boat
Question:
I have a 2006 Cadillac Escalade with a stock class 3 receiver hitch. Its rated for 5000lbs GTW and 600lbs tongue weight or 12000LBS with weight distribution and 1500lbs tongue weight. I am towing a 26ft boat with surge brakes weighing 5500lbs plus the weight of the trailer. The tongue weight is about 400lbs. I will be also carrying a loaded SUV with people and equipment. What do I need to buy to make this tow properly? Thanks,

The most important factor to consider when picking out a weight distribution system for a setup is to consider the loaded tongue weight of the setup. You should also consider the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the vehicle as tongue weight. I attached an FAQ article on how to determine tongue weight for you to check out also.
Once you determine your loaded tongue weight you will be ready to pick out a weight distribution system. The Reese Steadi-Flex WD System # RP66560 is an excellent choice if you had a loaded tongue weight of around 800 lbs as its range is from 600-1,200 lbs. This system is also compatible with surge brakes like you have because of its friction sway control.
Feel free to email me back with your loaded tongue weight and I will help you pick out a system. I also attached an FAQ article on weight distribution systems for you to check out as well as a link to all the weight distribution systems we carry that are surge brake compatible.
I would also double check your towing capacities. Usually the spread between weight carrying and weight distribution is much smaller than the range you think vehicle has.
