What Roof Rack Do You Recommend For My 2014 Dodge Durango With A Naked Roof

Question:

2014 Dodge Durango bare roof. Needed to transport kayak. Nothing heavier. are the 54” bars long enough. Does it sit in that door channel clean enough. Great price but willing to spend more if the fit isn’t perfect

If I had to pick a roof rack for a naked roof application, I would stick with Yakima or Thule. I have more confidence in their roof rack fits. My roof rack recommendation is the Yakima roof rack with round crossbars. It will consist of the following:

Round 58" CrossBars for Yakima Roof Rack System (QTY 2), part # Y00409,
BaseLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - Naked Roofs - Qty 4, part # Y28TR,
RoundBar SL Adapter - Qty 4, part # Y03536,
BaseClip Fit Kit for Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack Towers - Qty 4, part # Y06180, and
Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores (QTY 4), part # Y07204.

This roof rack has a weight limit of 125 lbs. Please keep in mind that the weight of the roof rack needs to be included in the calculation of how much weight you can carry on the roof of your vehicle. You would subtract the weight of this rack from your vehicle's maximum roof weight capacity, this would tell you how much you can carry on the roof of your vehicle. The Yakima towers have additional adjustments that the other roof rack companies do not have, toe and pitch. In my opinion, that makes Yakima the best choice for naked roof rack applications. The roof rack comes with round crossbars, so it will be compatible with most roof rack accessories.

I prefer j-cradle style kayak carriers and we have a great option. The etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier - Folding - Universal Mount, part # e98878, comes with two cam straps and 2 bow/stern tie downs. The bases are padded to protect your kayak and it has a weight capacity of 150 lbs, so it is plenty sturdy.

I have included product description links and video links below.
