How Does Saris SuperClamp EX 4-Bike Rack Work w/ Tilting Base for Saris SuperClamp SAR56VR

Question:

I saw in other answers that this rack does not convert down to a 2-bike carrier, but a separate tilting base #SAR56VR would allow for that even if its a labor-intensive setup. Do I have that right? Could you explain how the tilting base would convert it to a 2-bike rack — it seems like maybe the solution is to remove the outer rack from the 4-bike carrier and install it on the tilting base separately even if that means the original 4-now-2-bike carrier is unusable? THANKS!

Good question, and you do have it correct; you can convert the Saris SuperClamp EX 4-Bike Rack # SA4026F into a 2-bike rack with the Tilting Base for Saris SuperClamp Hitch Racks # SAR56VR.

I reached out to Saris and they told me that it is the same as putting together the SuperClamp, but in reverse, if that makes sense. So all you will do is take off either the inner or outer rack like you mentioned, but it really isn't super labor intensive.

The only hardware needed are the two nuts and bolts, as well as hex key from the SuperClamp EX # SA4026F. Then you'd just need an adjustable or 17mm (9/16") wrench to tighten the beam/rack you transferred onto the Tilting Base # SAR56VR.

The only other thing you will need is a different hitch pin to secure the tilting base, which is the Replacement Hitch Tite Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin for Saris Bike Racks with 2" Shanks # SA3021.
