Does Wiring Rated for 600 Amps Need to be Upgraded When Installing Converter Rated for 60 Amps

Question:

I am replacing a pd 9100 12v 60 amp converter in my 2008 winnebago destination to charge me recently replaced battery with a life pro 12v 200ah. Lithium battery. Do I need to up grade my wiring gauge from the battery to the converter. Wire size is currently rated at 600amps

Expert Reply:

If your wire is currently rated for 600 amps and you will be using a 60 amp converter for LifePo batteries like the part # PD9160ALV there would be no need to replace the wiring. If for some reason you meant to type 600 watts then yes you'd need wiring rated for at least 1,000 watts.
