Locating Brake Stop Lamp Switch to Install Brake Controller on 2012 Chevy Colorado
Question:
Im working on a prodigy P2 install in a 2012 Chevy Colorado WT. The brake switch doesnt have a blue wire starting with some 2010 models. Instead there is black wire that probably sends a signal someplace that in turn sends 12v back to the stop lights. Your phone tech said that the blue wire is somewhere under the dash. Where is it?

I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha, who tells me that they have not yet had an opportunity to locate the stoplight switch wire in a 2012 Colorado. From what I understand, somewhere in the main wiring harness there is supposed to be a wire used for a connection directly to the stoplight switch, but in vehicles not equipped with the tow package, this wire is taped up into the harness. Since Tekonsha borrows vehicles from a local dealer, they cannot go cutting into that wiring harness to determine the actual location or color of the wire.
My contact told me that there is an alternate location under the hood to access the circuit. In the power distribution fuse box under the hood, there is a relay for the center mounted stoplight at the rear of the vehicle. If you can find the Light Blue wire feeding one contact of that relay, you can tap the red brake controller wire in at that point.
