Recommended Trunk Mount Bike Rack for 2012 Subaru Impreza Wagon with Spoiler at Top of Hatch

Question:

I am looking for a trunk bike rack for this model car. I am concerned about the piece of what seems like plastic material the is at the top of the hatchback - it juts out just a bit . Will the straps hooked into the top of the hatch crush this piece of plastic due to the weight of the bikes. What model bike rack would circumvent this problem? Thanks for your help!!

As you mention, it is the small spoiler mounted at the top of your hatch that makes fitting a trunk mounted rack difficult for your vehicle.

The Over-The-Top rack by Hollywood Racks, part # HRF2 offers an excellent solution to this problem. Rather than suspending the rack from top of the hatch so that the spoiler bears the weight of the rack and bikes and becomes damaged, the HRF2 supports a portion of this weight on the hatch itself, thus distributing the weight so that the spoiler will not be damaged.

To carry womens bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # HRBA-PRO is recommended. The adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar gooseneck, and provides a level attachment point to the bike rack so the bike has greater ground clearance and is not carried at an angle.
