My Tekonsha Prodigy P2 90885 Will Not Return To "C When The Brake Pedal Is Released
Question:
I have a prodigy P2 90885. The brake controller reads numbers all the time even with no trailer connected to the truck. And when a trailer is connected the numbers on the brake controller go up as brake is pressed and while holding brake decrease as suppose to but when release brake pedal the number are still increasing but never go back to the C. When fully off the brake pedal. My other truck with the same controller works as should but this one is running numbers all the time, trailer or no trailer. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

This is definitely odd. The first thing I recommend doing is plugging the P2 # 90885 that is acting perplexingly into the truck that has the one that is working properly. If it now works properly, there is something going on with the wiring on the vehicle. If it continues with its oddities, then something has gone wrong internally, and it will need to be replaced.
If the controller did work satisfactorily in the other truck, you will need to check the red wire at the back of the controller with something like the # PTW2993 wire tester. Don't start your truck but turn it on and do not press the brake pedal. There should be absolutely no power at the red wire when this is done. If there is no power, move to the next paragraph. If there is power, you will need to find another source for the red wire that does not have power until the brake pedal is depressed. If this was hardwired in and not plugged into a factory port, this will just require testing a few wires to find the correct one. If you did have the factory port though, you will need to take your truck to an auto shop or dealer to have them diagnose and repair the problem.
The only other thing you can do is check to make sure all your ground connections are good. This is the most common cause for an electrical component to misbehave and can be a quick fix, most of the time. If this is installed on a vehicle that had a plug and play port under the dash and a factory 7 Way on the back of the vehicle, it can be quite a bit more complicated, and you will need to visit an auto shop or dealer to diagnose.
