Timbren Axle-Less Suspension For Scamp 19 5th Wheel to Add Lift

Question:

I have a 19 foot scamp fifth wheel. I tow it behind a Toyota tundra four-wheel-drive pick up and it goes down the road pointed nose high. Also, the torsion axels beat the crap out of everything inside. Any thoughts on which Timbren axle would allow me to increase the height, have brakes, and give me a better ride? I believe I have 14 inch wheels on there now and would probably move up to a 15 inch or 16 inch wheel.

You can replace your Scamp 19 5th wheel trailer's torsion axle with a Timbren axle-less system that has a lift, and according to my research, a Scamp 19 5th wheel has a 3,500 lb torsion axle. While I do recommend verifying that, what you can use as a replacement for that size axle is the following:

- Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - 4" Lift Spindle # ASR3500S06

This system is rated for 3,500 lbs just like your current axle, and will do exactly what you want by helping level out your Scamp and improve your ride. The reason for that is they have progressive springs that absorb shock much better than a standard axle, and since the Timbrens aren't connected to each other, they work independently. That means if there is a bump on one side of the road it won't rattle your entire trailer. This will require a specific hub:

- Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 84656UC3-EZ

While this hub and drum is compatible with wheels that are between 13 inches and 16 inches, they do require the wheels have a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern. So you can continue using your current 14 inch wheels if they have that bolt pattern, otherwise you can switch to the Provider ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire with 15" White Mod Wheel - 6 on 5-1/2 # TA27VR.

It looks like the Scamp also has electric brakes, so if they are 10 inch brakes rated for 3,500 lbs you can continue to use them, or for new ones you can add the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-468-469.
