Troubleshooting Firestone Ride Rite Dual Leveling Kit Compressor Not Activating When Switches Used
Question:
I am not a mechanic and i have not installed this system. It worked fine for sometime. Its a Firestone dual air leveling kit for a 2WD ford excursion, with Analogue gauge. When buttons are pushed up, usually the compressor engages and the inflation begins. However, it just stopped. Not sounds, not compressor coming on or anything. I would assume its elctrical. If you could point me where to check id appreciate it. Also, what fuses and the location of those would be that i could check?

Your dual air leveling kit will be very similar to the Firestone Air Command II # F2178. Since this is a universal kit there is no one certain place that you can look to find the fuse and relay for the compressor, but you will be able to trace the wiring from either the compressor itself or the switches inside your 2004 Ford Excursion. I have included a picture of how the wiring should be ran to both the fuse and relay so that you can trace your wiring.
A Test Light # PTW2993 can also be used to test for power in the wiring to determine if it is an electrical issue. You will be able to use the test light to check the wiring, switches and other portions of the harness to see where power stops. This may help prevent you from chasing something that may not be a problem as you can test for power at the compressor when activating the switch to ensure that the compressor hasn't burnt out.
