Picking Out Weight Distribution System for Truck with Camper in Bed Towing Trailer

Question:

I have a 11 1/2 foot slide In camper on a 2017 F350 dually that I pull a cargo trailer behind. I am using 41inch Reese Titan extension. My loafrd trailer tongue weight is 400 to 450 pounds and loaded trailer is 4,300 pounds. I am thinking of using a weight distribution hitch. How do I choose the right setup with the camper? I see the charts that say add tongue weight and any load behind the rear axle. Obviously my camper has a lot of weight behind the rear axle but no real way to know how much.

In your situation you'd want to consider about 1/3 of the weight of your truck bed camper as additional tongue weight to the 400-450 lbs of your trailer weight. This may not be exact but it will probably get you close enough. So average camper weight is around 2,600 lbs so 1/3 of that is about 850 lbs. That would mean you are probably around the 1,200 lb tongue weight range.

So for a WD system the Curt TruTrack # C17501 would be a great choice as it has a range of 1,000-1,500 lbs.
